Words
and communication
Words are like weapons they wound us at times.
The New Year is well and truly upon us now. 2013 brings new and fresh energy. It is also a very good time to look around us and improve particular aspects of our lives and the lives of those around us, those we love.
In recent times I have seen how words can seriously affect people and their energy, this is a double edged sword however as those words can be both powerful and uplifting or hateful manipulating and devastating.
Words of encouragement are wonderful tools and used correctly can launch careers, build self-confidence, encourage a person to try something new as well as offer hope.
Using words as encouragement should also be used with careful consideration as building someone up to achieve something that is as yet beyond their reach may also have an undesired effect if the person is built up in a way that is not beneficial to them, tell a fish to climb a mountain and things will go horribly wrong for very obvious reasons.
Support and achievable goals is a powerful combination, as they say it builds more confidence to set smaller goals
and see smaller rewards faster and more often than setting one huge goal with little or no reward until completion.
Words are also a learning tool, they are used to teach us and for us to teach others.
Using words with love and respect will always hold more worth than using words to manipulate a situation for self-gain or self-gratification.
People may not always call someone out on a lie or nasty wordplay, but they do always see the truth behind the words.
Words taken out of context, word relayed by a third party or here-say (gossip) where something is heard and passed on without the story teller bothering to find out if the words are true.
To see or hear words written or spoken by someone else does not mean that anyone else has the need to relay those words on to someone else, even if it is the person for whom the words were meant, the problem here is that the story teller does not know the meaning behind the words nor are they aware of the way in which the words are intended and by their own translation they could take simple words and turn them into something completely alien from the original message hence turning a simple comment into a scathing hurtful and very untrue statement.
This hurts not only the person who wrote or said the original comment, but also the person it was intended to reach.
As with a Chinese whisper word meaning and intention can change volumes in the hands of someone who is looking to cause mischief.
There many ways to improve communication with others, and if we think about it I’m quite sure we can come up with many more than will be mentioned here, but the basis to a clearer and better communication always begin with the basics.
Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil… that pretty much has it covered, lol
Don’t say anything out loud (includes written text) that you would not say directly to the person you are talking about, no gossiping.
Better still, don’t say it at all.
Don’t repeat something someone else said or wrote about another person as you don’t know the truth or story
behind the statement.
If you can’t prove it, don’t repeat it.
Never relay a message or speak out of turn about someone to a person who you know is not trust worthy.
They will burn you, if not this time, then it will be next time. Better still don’t say anything in the first place.
Use words of encouragement wisely and only for the highest intention.
If you can’t think of one nice thing to say, then smile.
